Preaching the Word: A Command to Every Believer.

A RECAP OF TODAY'S SERMON GIVEN BY THE GENERAL OVERSEER BISHOP JULIUS SOYINKA AT THE FIRST SERVICE.
TOPIC; PREACHING THE WORD- A COMMAND TO EVERY BELIEVER.
TEXT; MARK 16:15-18
Verse: And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. KJV  This was the command given by Jesus before his physical departure from the world. This verse is called the great commission. It was a direct command, not an advice or a suggestion.
This command to go into the world and preach the gospel is very important. Why is it so important?
1. Because it is only by the preaching of the gospel can anyone be saved. Acts 4:12.
2. Because it is the only means by which souls can be added to the church. Many people are in the church today who didn't come in through the gospel and that is the reason we have so many problems in the church.
3. Only by the gospel can the believers fulfill their assignment.
4. It is through this that we can anticipate the coming of the Lord. It must be preached to the whole world before he can come. Everyone must hear the gospel so that no one can have an excuse.
There are three points to discuss in this sermon.
A. The profile of the gospel message.
B. The purpose of the gospel message and
C. The power of the gospel message
A. What is the component of the message? It is to teach, to correct and to motivate individuals to inherit the kingdom of God. Any preaching of the gospel that is not centred on the Lord Jesus is not real and should be ignored.
What information can be derived from the real gospel message?
1. That Jesus died on the cross, he shed his blood for the remission of sin.
2. He rose from the dead to give us a new life. 2 Corinthians 5:15
3. Salvation is not by the work of man but by grace.
4. Every believer is established by baptism in water and in the Holy Spirit.
5. Every saved believer is to continue to grow. 2 Peter 3:18
6. We are to witness for Christ and carry out other assignments that would be given to us in the church.
7. Everyone will face the judgement on the last day. Hebrews 9:27
B. The purpose of the gospel message.
The purpose is the salvation of man. This salvation changes a man's life in order to change his destination from destruction to eternal life.
There are three phases of salvation- Phase one is we are saved Mark 16:16. Phase two is we are being saved- means we continue in it. Rom. 12:1,2. and phase three is we shall be saved. The Bible says that those who endure to the end shall be saved.
The purpose of salvation also includes
2. To deliver us from spiritual death.
3. To deliver us from deceptions. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.
4. To deliver us from spiritual destruction.
C. The power of the gospel message.
The preaching of the gospel message sets the Holy Spirit in motion. He backs it up with signs and wonders. This power also manifests in the lives of the hearers as well as the lives of the preachers.
What does this power do in our lives?
1. It sets us free from the power of sin.
2. It gives us power against the works of the Flesh.
3. It gives us power against the world. We are faced with pressures and challenges daily but this power causes us to overcome through faith in God.
4. Power against customs and traditions which go against the will of God.
5. Power against the forces of darkness. Luke 10:19.
We have been given the gospel that is worth believing. It is not fable. If you have received it and believe it then you must SHARE IT.
