Heaven's Greatest Gift, Humanity's Greatest Decision

Hebrews 2:3 

Introduction:

Life is full of important decisions—our education, career, marriage, business, and relationships.

 However, the greatest decision anyone will ever make is what they do with Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers.

 Every other decision affects this life, but the decision to accept or reject God's salvation affects eternity.

The writer of Hebrews asks a profound question: "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" The question is rhetorical because there is no escape apart from Christ.

 God has given humanity His greatest gift—salvation through Jesus Christ. The responsibility now rests on every individual to respond by faith.

This passage presents three compelling truths about God's wonderful gift of salvation.

1.  The Preciousness of Heavens Gift 

2.  The Peril of Humanity's Neglect 

3.  The Profit of Humble Decision 

 1. The Preciousness of Heaven's Gift — “So Great Salvation”

Salvation is called "so great" because of its incomparable worth.

It is precious because of its Divine Origin.

It was conceived in the heart of God before the foundation of the world.

It is an expression of God's amazing love and abundant mercy.

It is precious because of its Cost.

It could not be purchased with silver or gold.

It was bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ on Calvary.

It is precious because of its Benefits.

Forgiveness of sins.

Reconciliation with God.

Adoption into God's family.

Freedom from condemnation.

Eternal life through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1:18–19

“...ye were not redeemed with corruptible things... but with the precious blood of Christ.”

Never treat lightly what cost God His only begotten Son. Treasure your salvation and thank God daily for His amazing grace.

 2. The Peril of Humanity's Neglect — “If We Neglect”

The writer does not say, "If we reject," but "if we neglect."

Many people do not openly deny Christ; they simply ignore Him.

Neglect may be seen in:

Delaying repentance.

Ignoring God's Word.

Living without prayer.

Neglecting fellowship with God's people.

Becoming spiritually indifferent.

Hearing the Gospel repeatedly without responding.

Neglect is dangerous because it gradually hardens the heart and distances a person from God.

Proverbs 27:1

“Boast not thyself of to morrow...”

Tomorrow is never guaranteed. God's invitation demands a response today.

Do not postpone your salvation or become careless in your Christian walk. Respond to God's call while His grace is available.

 3. The Profit of Humble Decision — “How Shall We Escape?”

The question is directed to every individual. No one can decide for you.

Parents cannot.

Pastors cannot.

Friends cannot.

The Church cannot.

Every person must personally respond to God's offer of salvation.

The Gospel was:

Proclaimed by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Confirmed by the Apostles.

Authenticated by God through signs, wonders, miracles, and the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 2:4).

Jesus remains the only way of salvation.

Acts 4:12

“Neither is there salvation in any other...”

God has provided the gift, but each person must make the decision to receive it.

Ask yourself:

Have I truly accepted Christ?

Am I cherishing the salvation I have received?

Am I helping others to receive this great gift?

Conclusion:

Hebrews 2:3 reminds us of three eternal realities:

The Preciousness of Heaven's Gift—salvation is the greatest gift God has given.

The Peril of Humanity's Neglect—ignoring God's grace has eternal consequences.

The Profit of Humble Decision—every individual must respond to Christ by faith.

The greatest tragedy is not dying without wealth, fame, or success. The greatest tragedy is standing before God having neglected His priceless gift of salvation.

Heaven has already given its greatest gift in Jesus Christ. The greatest decision you can ever make is to receive Him as your Lord and Saviour.

Today, God is extending His gracious invitation to you. Do not neglect His gift. Open your heart to Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and receive the salvation He freely offers.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
