Enjoying the Blessings of Divine Healings
ENJOYING THE BLESSINGS OF DIVINE HEALING
Study Text: Matthew 9:35
Introduction:
- One of the blessings of God to us through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ is Divine Healing.
- God offers us the blessing of healing, but we must accept it for ourselves by faith. An unwavering faith in what Jesus did on the cross to obtain healing for us is required.
- The issue of Divine Healing has been a subject of controversy in the Church for many years, with varying views, opinions and teachings.
- But if we examine the Scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth about it, we will receive understanding of the mind of God concerning the subject matter.
- Divine Healing is indeed provided for in the Atonement. Therefore, if we do not make ourselves available to God for healing, through faith, then, we will be downplaying the sacrifice of Jesus and live far below the place, and short of the blessings that He has prepared for us.
- Not only are we to expect healing, but we should also believe to live in divine health.
- Divine healing is the removal by the power of God of the sicknesses and diseases that has come upon the body.
- But, divine health is to live day by day, hour by hour in touch with God so that the life of God flows into the body, soul and spirit for our overall wellbeing.
- Healing is the Covenant right of every believer in Christ. It is without controversy or ambiguity, as far as the Word of God is concerned.
- It is God’s will to heal you. It is in His redemptive plan. It has to be His will because He laid our sickness and disease on Jesus, just as He did our sin Isaiah 53:5.
- God made His Word plain, and He always keeps His Word. We shall be discussing the topic under three subheadings:
1. The Subject Regarding Divine Healings
2. The Scriptures Relating to Divine Healings
3. The Steps to Receive Divine Healings
1. The Subject Regarding Divine Healings
- The Scriptures revealed certain truths to us regarding Divine Healings: Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24.
1. Divine Healings was part of the purpose of His death
- You are not “being healed” you “were healed” at the Crucifixion. When Jesus died over two thousand years ago, He took your sicknesses, your diseases and your sins.
- He took them out of the way “nailing them to His Cross” Colossians 2:14.
2. The key to receive Divine Healings is Faith in His death and resurrection.
- Jesus provided for our healing at the crucifixion just like He provided for our salvation, but the Key to receiving both Salvation and Healings is Faith in Him and what He has done for us. Romans 10:8 - 9.
3. The blessing of Divine Healings covers every sickness and every sick person who believes. Matthew 8:16-17.
- Jesus bore our sins because He was sinless, and took away our infirmities and bore our sicknesses at Calvary.
- So many people can believe that Jesus took their sins but they cannot seem to believe the same of their infirmities.
- Jesus Paid it all. All the sicknesses, all the diseases and all the sins you will ever experience. Jesus can do nothing more for you.
- He has provided salvation, deliverance and healing in the atonement. Everything He can do for you He has already done.
2. The Scriptures Relating to Divine Healings
1. James 5:14: Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him. James was writing to Christian believers.
- The Church elders must be called upon to pray for divine healing for every sick member of the Church, with the anointing oil as the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
- When such prayers are offered by Faith in the word of God and His power, the sick shall recover from the sicknesses. This may either be instantaneous or may take place gradually.
- God is Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15:26. Healing is part of God’s very nature, God was, is, and will continue to be a Healer.
- We must remember always that we serve a healing God who has declared that His intent towards us is not to bring on us any diseases, but to be the Lord who heals us.
2. Acts 10:38: Jesus was going about under the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit to heal all manner of sicknesses and diseases.
- God's spiritual healing power extends to all our diseases and infirmities and none was left out, including those that are yet to be discovered. Psalms 103:2-3.
- The greatest of the Lord’s benefits is that He forgives all our sins. But the Psalmist here charges us not to forget another of the Lord’s benefits: that He heals all our diseases.
- All our diseases. None is too hard for Him. God heals them all. No illness is excluded from this great benefit. Whatever disease any child of God may have, it falls under God’s promise to heal all your diseases.
3. Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24: It was Jesus willing offering of Himself on the Cross that bore our sins. But the very same tormented body of Jesus, in His scourging and crucifixion, purchased for us the blessing of physical healing.
- Sin has been overcome. Sickness has been overcome. The Cross of Jesus Christ has conquered both sin and sickness.
- The following are some of the numerous instances of divine, spiritual healing in the Bible.
1. God responds to prayer for divine healing.
Genesis 20:17-18, Numbers 12:13
- Whenever a faithful believer prays for the sick, God will bring healing. Faithful Abraham prayed, and God healed Abimilech. Moses prayed for leprous Miriam, and God healed her.
- King David understood the power of prayer for healing the sick. Psalm 30:2
- The principle seen here in the Bible, is the power of a believer’s prayer. God honours and answers the prayer of a believer for divine healing.
- Abraham, Moses, and David believed in God’s healing power and His willingness to heal, and they prayed for it, and God manifested by effecting healings.
2. Some examples of Jesus healing the sick.
- The Scriptures is full of several examples of Jesus healing the sick. Jesus healed a broad range of illnesses, in fact, He healed every disease and sickness. Matthew 4:23-24
- As Christians, we serve a healing Saviour, Jesus Christ. He preached and taught, but He also healed every disease and sickness among the people.
- Christ’s healing power is without limit. His healing touch is available to everyone. There is no illness beyond His ability to cure. Matthew 14:35-36
- Jesus is willing to heal those who come to Him in faith. Believe the Lord for divine healing. Have Faith in His power and willingness to heal you, and you will receive your healing without fail. Matthew 9:20-22, 27-30
- God expects us, in asking for healing as well as in other prayers, to believe Him, to believe His word, to have faith in God. Mark 11:22, Acts 3:16
- We need to properly searched the Bible for healing Scriptures, but we must not be content to use them merely as a formula for healing, rather than as a revelation of the Healer Himself.
- Although many healings in the Bible were instantaneous, some were not immediate. Be willing to maintain steadfast faith as you pray for divine healing, and don’t be discouraged if your healing does not immediately occur.
- According to James 1:6-7: When you ask God for healing, don’t doubt, don’t waver. Believe God. Believe the healing promises of His word, and you shall experience His healing power.
- Although, there is gift of healings operating through some specific individuals as the Holy Spirit gives the enablement, but it doesn't require someone with a special healing ministry to heal the sick. Mark 16:17-18
- The power and the grace to lay hands on the sick to effect divine healings, have been given to every believer in Christ, and they should operate in this capacity at all times by Faith.
3. The Steps to Receive Divine Healings
- You can take hold of what belongs to you and live in divine health by following the strategies outlined in the Word of God. Some of the steps necessary to receive and keep your healing are as follows:
1. Be Diligent in Keeping the Word of God. Psalm 103:2-3
- Whenever a believer has a problem receiving or keeping healing, he usually suffers from ignorance of God’s Word and of his rights and privileges in Jesus Christ.
- Healing always comes, and God’s Word is the vehicle that will get you there. If you are well, God’s Word will keep you well. If you are sick, it will heal you and then keep you well. Proverbs 4:20-23.
- To stand on the Word of God is to meditate on it and make it final authority in your life. You put it in your heart until the reality of your healing has more power and validity to you than the symptoms of sickness coming on your body.
- Be diligent about keeping God’s Word in your heart. Continually read it, listen to it, think about it, talk about it. It will be health to your body.
2. Walk by Faith and not by Sight. Romans 4:19
- To receive healing, you must make the truth of healing more real than the symptoms in your body. You focus on what the word of God says, and not what the feelings are.
- The devil will always work against your receiving healing and keeping your healing once you receive it. So, trust in what the Lord says in His words, and not what the Devil is saying through your senses and feelings.
3. Trust God to Help your Unbelief. Matthew 13:58
- Jesus could do no mighty works because of their unbelief. Doubt will rob you of God’s blessings. Unbelief will leave you sick.
- The Word of God defeats unbelief. When a person receives the Word, doubt, defeat and discouragement have to leave. Romans 10:17
- So, do not hang on to any doubt or unbelief, trust God to help you and let the Word of God drive it out, and your faith will be strengthened.
4. Pray with Thanksgiving about your Situation. Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:7
- When it comes to receiving and keeping divine healing, the first thing to learn is to cease to be anxious about the state of your body, and pray about it with thanksgiving.
- God loves you so much. He wants you to give every care, worry and anxiety to Him as you discuss the issues with Him in prayers.
- Just rest in God in prayer, and one day you will wake up, and your symptoms will be gone.
5. Confess and Possess your Healings by Faith. Mark 11:23
- Your prayers should line up with the Word of God, just as the words coming out of your mouth should, to achieve results.
- If we are going to obey God, we must talk to the mountain of sickness and cast it out of our lives (Mark 11:23).
- Start speaking the Word today. Call things that be not as though they were. As you do, your faith will be strengthened, and your healing will come in Jesus name.
6. Be Steadfast in Faith and Persist in Prayer. Hebrews 10:23
- As you put God’s prescription for health and healing to work in your life, putting the Word in your heart, speaking it, resisting the devil, don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results.
- Sometimes healing comes instantly, but there are other times when it comes more gradually. So, don’t let your lingering symptoms cause you to doubt.
- Cast out every thought the devil sends your way, by holding on in your faith and persisting in your prayers. James 1:6-8
Conclusion:
- There is provision for divine healings for every believer in Christ. This is a blessing we must enjoy continually and at time of illnesses.
- Through Faith in the word of God and His power, not only that we will experience divine healings, but we will also pray for others to be healed through the power of God.
